The Saguaro (Carnegiea gigantea) is an iconic and towering cactus native to the Sonoran Desert in the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. Recognized for its impressive height, often reaching up to 40 feet, and its distinctive, branching arms, the Saguaro is a symbol of the American West. These cacti are slow-growing, with some taking up to 75 years to develop their first arm, and they can live for 150 to 200 years. The Saguaro is adapted to the harsh desert environment, storing water in its thick, pleated stems to survive long periods of drought. In spring, the Saguaro produces large, white flowers that bloom at night, attracting pollinators like bats and bees.
