Western Juniper
Western Juniper
The Western Juniper (Juniperus occidentalis) is a hardy and resilient evergreen tree native to the arid regions of the western United States, particularly in the Great Basin and high desert areas. Known for its twisted, gnarled branches and rugged appearance, the Western Juniper typically grows between 20 to 50 feet tall, though it can reach greater heights under favorable conditions. Its foliage consists of scale-like leaves that are dark green to bluish-green, and it produces small, berry-like cones that are an important food source for wildlife, including birds and mammals. The tree's dense, durable wood has traditionally been used for fencing, firewood, and rustic furniture.
